The IEC 61547:2020 standard specifies the electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) immunity requirements for equipment intended for general lighting purposes. It applies to lighting devices such as LED modules, lamps, and associated control gear (e.g., electronic ballasts and drivers), which operate at voltages up to 250 V for single-phase systems and up to 480 V for other systems. The standard outlines performance criteria, test methods, and immunity levels for various electromagnetic disturbances, including electrostatic discharge (ESD), radiated and conducted RF disturbances, electrical fast transients (EFT), and surge voltages. Its purpose is to ensure that lighting products maintain normal performance under typical electromagnetic interference conditions found in residential, commercial, and industrial environments.
IEC 61547:2020 aligns with the general principles of EMC immunity testing defined in the IEC 61000 series and emphasizes functional safety and reliability during operation. This edition introduces updated test levels and refined performance criteria in line with technological advancements in lighting equipment. The standard provides a clear framework for manufacturers to design lighting products that are resistant to common electromagnetic disturbances, thereby improving product quality and minimizing malfunctions caused by electromagnetic interference in real-world applications.
