In addition to producing a negative influence on the sensitive electronics that underlie the guidance and communications systems of today’s military vehicles, sand and dust may also have a negative impact on the tough exterior that serves to shield those components from harm. This test is performed in a dust test chamber or dust tester.
Sand and dust testing have become an essential element of the quality-control process for military contractors and other manufacturers across a wide variety of sectors for this reason alone.
In environmental sand and dust testing, a system is placed in a blowing chamber and exposed to sand or dust particles. In contrast, temperature, relative humidity, air velocity, particle composition, particle concentration, and system orientation are controlled.
When a system is exposed to sand and dust, the following problems may occur:
1. Getting through the seals
2. Deterioration of circuits
3. Obstacles and filters clogged with debris
4. Interference between mating components
5. Thermal conductivity is decreasing.
6. Optical properties are affected.
7. Transmission attenuation
Procedure 1
Blown dust is the term used to describe the process of subjecting a system to moving dust particles over 12 hours, ideally from where the system would be anticipated to function.
If natural dust from the given location is not accessible, a test dust with a composition that is as near as possible to the natural dust may be used.
dustproof chamber
Ideally, you should maintain the temperature at typical ambient air temperatures and the system’s high working and storage temperatures initially defined.
It should not be more than 30 percent when it comes to relative humidity since caking of particles might develop in very humid situations.
You may utilize a variety of air velocities to depict the desired environment of the system. Because it is meant to be used in a real-world dust event, the system in issue must function well while being tested.
Once the testing is completed, the results are analyzed for damage and impairment. You will be amazed to know that LISUN also has the best dust test chambers.
Procedure 2
Blowing sand is the process of exposing a system to particles of quartz sand that are similar to those found in the location of interest for 90 minutes at a time.
Because there are 90 deserts on the planet, each having a unique sand particle size distribution, it is hard to define a distribution representative of every location. For this reason, the standard 150-850 micrometer particle size is employed throughout testing.
Ideally, you should maintain the temperature at typical ambient air temperatures and the high working and storage temperatures originally defined for the system.
Wind speeds of 18-29 m/s (40-65 mph) are recommended for simulating realistic wind and gusts and ensuring that the particles stay suspended throughout circulation and circulation of the air.
You should reorient the system at intervals of 90 minutes to ensure that it receives the most significant amount of erosion effects. If the technology in issue is planned to run during a real-world sand event, it is operated during testing.
