IEC 60076-1:2011 Power transformers – Part 1: General specifies the fundamental technical requirements, design principles, and testing methodologies for power transformers. This standard applies to three-phase and single-phase transformers (including autotransformers), excluding small or specialized types such as single-phase transformers with a rated capacity less than 1 kVA, three-phase transformers below 5 kVA, transformers with all windings rated at no more than 1000 V, and instrument transformers. It establishes a common technical framework for ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance consistency of power transformers across different applications and manufacturers.
The standard details the service conditions for transformers, covering both normal operating environments and special scenarios like high-altitude locations or extreme temperature ranges. It addresses key ratings and general requirements, including rated voltage, frequency, over-excitation limits, load losses, and temperature rise limits. Additionally, it outlines rules for transformers with tap-changed windings, connection types and group designations, nameplate information, safety and environmental considerations, allowable deviations, testing procedures, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and high-frequency transient operations.
