RoHS is a mandatory standard established by EU legislation. Its full name is “Restriction of Hazardous Substances” (Restriction of Hazardous Substances), which was published on 1st, July , 2006. It has been officially implemented. It is mainly used to standardize the material and process standards of electronic and electrical products to make it more conducive to human health and environmental protection. The purpose of the standard is to eliminate lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyls in electrical and electronic products. And polybrominated diphenyl ethers include 6 substances, and it is emphasized that the lead content cannot exceed 0.1%.
1. What is RoHS?
RoHS stands for Restriction of Hazardous Substances. RoHS, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, originated in the European Union and restricts the use of certain hazardous materials in electrical and electronic products. All applicable products on the EU market must comply with RoHS standard after 1st, July, 2006.
2. What are the restricted materials regulated by RoHS?
The RoHS banned substances include lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE) and four different phthalates ( DEHP, BBP, BBP), DIBP).
3. Why is RoHS compliance important?
Restricted materials are harmful to the environment and pollute landfills, and are dangerous in terms of occupational exposure during manufacturing and recycling.
4. How to test product compliance with RoHS standard?
RoHS tester, also known as X-ray fluorescence or XRF metal analyzer, is used to screen and verify RoHS compliance.
5. Which companies are affected by the RoHS directive?
Any company that directly sells applicable electronic products, sub-components or components to EU countries, or sells products to dealers, distributors or integrators, will be affected if they use any restricted materials.
